Brand Identity & Platform: Active by Old Navy
In 2015, Old Navy launched a major, highly coordinated push for its Old Navy Active brand platform. The brand strategy was intentionally designed to challenge major sports giants like Nike and Adidas and mass retail by framing athletic performance through a democratic, fun, and inclusive lens.
The Activation: Brand commercial, store merchandising, social media, experiential ground events, and digital media to build organic word-of-mouth engagement, global packaging system.
The Results: Backed by the momentum of its activewear push and quick-response supply chain, Old Navy reached $6 billion in annual U.S. sales in 2015. Old Navy drove 40% of Gap Inc.’s global revenue and acted as the parent company's primary growth engine, largely due to active and denim categories. The active sub-brand successfully pulled market share from traditional big-box competitors like Target and Walmart.
